- Amplification efficacy
- GeneMapper® data computing
- ABI sequencers adapted
- Used by European National Reference Centres.
MLVA, a powerful typing method for MRSA
Multi Locus VNTR Analysis (MLVA) is a PCR based typing method that relies on the inherent variability found in many regions of repetitive DNA called VNTR (Variable Number Tandem Repeat) which represent sources of genetic polymorphism. The MLVA assay for L. pneumophila examines 12 loci. Thus, each isolate is defined by a 12-digit numeric code corresponding to the number of repeats at each VNTR.
Bacteria targeted by MLVA (Multi-Locus-VNTR-Analysis)?
-
Pseudomonas aeruginosa
-
Legionella pneumophila
-
Staphylococcus aureus
-
Salmonella enterica

The international medical community has funneled greater resources into researching ways of preventing MRSA since 1999, when four children died in Chicago after coming into contact with the bacteria in their community. Prior to these deaths, it was thought that the bacteria attacked only in hospital settings. Since then, the American virulent strain has been dubbed USA300, or "superbug."

“People who have developed the flu and MRSA typically have a higher mortality rate than others,” reported Susan White, Ph.D., CMC, President of Sussex Environmental Health Consultants (SEHC), a leading Mid-Atlantic indoor air quality (IAQ) and infection control consulting firm. “Most MRSA infections are skin infections, but more severe and potentially life-threatening MRSA infections are believed to be responsible for thousands of deaths each year in the United States. Proactive testing for MRSA can help prevent outbreaks of the disease. If an outbreak has occurred, testing for the bacteria can pinpoint sources of the potentially deadly pathogen to prevent further illnesses,” she continued.
